How often do you drink spring water?
Are you well hydrated?
We all know that your body needs to drink spring water to function properly and lots of it. But did you know that there actually are specific situations and times where you should drink spring water to order to remain at the top of your health.
1. When you’re thirsty:
While it seems blindingly obvious, it just makes sense to drink spring water right away when you’re thirsty, it should be an immediate reaction. The moment you feel your throat is running dry, rehydrate. Don’t wait too long because by the time you realise that you’re thirsty your body is already losing 1-2% water.
2. When hunger strikes:
Sometimes your brain accidently sends hunger signals when you are thirsty. Thus, you mistake thirst for hunger and you help yourself to pizza instead. When you feel hungry, try drinking a glass of water, because chances are, it’s your brain misleading you. However, if you’re still feeling ravenous after half an hour, you probably were hungry.
3. First thing in the morning:
Obviously you can’t drink while you’re sleeping so after you’ve been sleeping for seven hours or so your body starts to dehydrate. Remember your brain and body keep working even when you are asleep and they use water to keep working. One proof that your body is actually losing water at night is your full bladder in the morning. One of the first things you should do in the morning is rehydrate! By drinking a few glasses of spring water you will jumpstart your digestive system and metabolism, waking you up for the day!
4. When you’re feeling under the weather:
It’s fairly common knowledge that when you’re sick you need to keep up the fluids in order to recover quickly. However several conditions such as running high fevers or diarrhoea put you at higher risk of dehydration, so you need to be particularly vigilant at keeping hydrate during these times. In cases of urinary tract infections, drinking water helps your urinary system to flush out back and can even help to prevent the accumulation of kidneys tones.
5. When taking medications:
When you’re ill and taking prescription drugs, drink extra water to help you body get rid of the drug’s by-products. Many medications can raise your risk of getting kidney stones, for example if you’re taking ibuprofen or acetaminophen, staying hydrated will help you kidneys metabolise these medications.
6. After a big night on the town:
The number one reason that people get hangovers is due to dehydration. However most people don’t realise this, while alcohol is a fluid, it’s actually extremely dehydrating and tricks your stomach with empty calories and overworks the liver. And that’s why you wake up feeling starved and thirsty the following morning. So before you fall asleep make sure that you have a big drink of water to rehydrate yourself and lessen the headache tomorrow.
7. In hot weather:
Australia is one of the hottest and driest places on earth, so it should be no surprise that drinking enough water should be our top priority. Before of our climate our chances of becoming dehydrated are increased, so frequent hydration is imperative for a healthy lifestyle.
8. During workouts:
You’re not only burning calories when you’re lifting weights or even jogging. You’re also losing more water through sweating and increased breathing. Thus, it makes sense to bring a bottle of water with you to the gym. Also, it counters the effects of lactic acid that builds up in muscle tissues during exercise. (Lactic acid is the reason your muscles feel sore after workout.
Many people sight the main reason they remain constantly under hydrated is that they don’t have easy access to it during the day.
